Common Everyday Marijuana Terminology
For those of you who are unfamiliar with terms relating to marijuana I thought I would list some terminology and what it means here. If you have any terms that I have not listed please leave a message below and let us know.
Acapulco Gold – A popular strain of marijuana grown in the mountains of western Mexico
Bag – package of marijuana
Bhang – refers to when marijuana is prepared as edibles
Blunt – A cigar filled with a mixture of marijuana and tobacco
Bong – a water filled device used for filtering and then smoking marijuana
Bowl – this is the part of the pipe or bong that holds your marijuana
Bud – this is the part of the marijuana plant that contains psychoactive properties and is consumed for this effect.
Budtender – a person who works in a medical marijuana dispensary behind the counter. They are familiar with the product and because of their expertise they can make recommendation on your purchase.
Buzz – term used by users to describe the euphoric effect of marijuana
Cannabidiol – chemical compound that is non-psychotropic found in cannabis. Better known as CBD
Cannabinoids – class of chemical compounds with different effects. There are at least 113 cannabinoids that have been found in a marijuana plant. The most common three are THC, CBD and CBN
CBD – is one of the cannabinoids found in the marijuana plant. It is different from THC in that it does not seem to have any psychoactive effects.
CBD Oil – used for medical purposes it is extracted from the cannabis plant
Charlotte’s Web – medical cannabis that is high in CBD and low in THC. It was developed for Charlotte Figi who suffers from Dravet syndrome.
Clone – this is a cutting from a female marijuana plant. Growers use this as a way to get the identical plant reproduced and it does shorten the growing cycle
Cola – Topmost flower bud on a marijuana plant
Cotton Mouth – a term used to describe one of the side effects of marijuana use which is a dry mouth. Drinking water can help to alleviate the effects
Ditchweed – slang name for marijuana that is of poor quality
Doobie – slang used to describe a marijuana cigarette
Dronabinol – this is THC which is synthetically produced
Drug Paraphernalia – this refers to equipment or accessories used to grow and process and consume marijuana
Edibles– this refers to food or drink containing marijuana
Extract – this refers to a product that is made from marijuana resin
Feminized Seeds – these seeds have been bred to create female plants
Ganja – Hindi word for marijuana
Gateway Drug – this is a drug that some believe leads a user to heavier more addictive and harmful drugs
Grass – slang term used for marijuana
Hashish – product made from the resin of cannabis plant
Hemp – a common name for the cannabis plant that is used for industrial use. Uses include fiber for clothing, paper, rope and building materials
Hookah – traditional Indian water pipe
Hophead – a term to describe a person who uses cannabis
Hydroponics – a method used to grow marijuana without using soil
Indica – one of the main species of cannabis
Jay – slang for marijuana joint
Joint – a marijuana cigarette
Kief – cakes of hashish often mixed with tobacco
Kush – Varieties of marijuana originating from the Hindu Kush mountain range of Afghanistan, India and Pakistan
Lid – A measured amount of cannabis usually one-to-one and a half ounces that fits into the lid of a shoe box thus the name lid
Live Resin – this is cannabis that is extracted fresh then instead of drying it is kept at freezing temperatures.
Ma – Chinese name for marijuana
Marijuana – also known as cannabis is a psychoactive drug which comes from the cannabis plant. Marijuana is used for medical or recreational purposes. It can be smoked, vaporized, or used in food.
Mary Jane – a slang term referring to marijuana
Medical Cannabis – cannabis or marijuana that is used to treat medical issues in a person
Mites – a pest common to the spider family that will attach your marijuana plant
Mota – Spanish slang word for cannabis
Munchies – term referring to a person’s increase in appetite which can be an effect of marijuana use
Nug – slang word used to describe marijuana bud of high quality
One-Hitter – refers to a pipe used for smoking marijuana
Pot – refers to cannabis
Pothead – a person who uses marijuana frequently
Reefer – slang word for cannabis
Roach – what is left of a joint after most of it has been smoked
Roach Clip – device used to hold a joint while it is burning
Roasted – slang term for being high
Rolling Paper – this is a thin paper used to roll cannabis cigarettes
Sativa – one of the main species of cannabis
Sea of Green – this is a method of growing marijuana that forces the plant to mature quicker and still get the best possible yields
Space Cake – this is a slang term used to describe edibles made with marijuana
Spliff – another term for a cannabis cigarette
Stash – this term is often used to describe how much marijuana you have
Stoned – Slang name used to describe the state of a person under the influence of cannabis
Stoner – this term is used to describe a person who consumes a lot of cannabis
Terpenes – this part of the cannabis plant gives the buds their fragrance.
THC – also known as tetrahydrocannabinol is the main psychoactive part of the cannabis plant.
Toke – slang term for when a person takes a puff of cannabis
Toker – slang term referring to a person who uses cannabis
Trichomes – these are the fine hairs on the marijuana plant that contain most of the THC
Vape – a way to consume active ingredients in marijuana by vaporizing the dried cannabis
Vaporizer – a device used to consume cannabis by vaporizing.
Vegetative State – this refers to the growing phase of the plant which usually lasts 4 to 6 weeks depending on what strain you are growing
Wake and Bake – term used to describe consuming cannabis early in the morning
Wax – a type of extracted marijuana
X-ray Eyed – a description of being extremely under the influence of cannabis
Zig-Zag – a type of rolling paper
